Privacy Policy
What is collected, which is almost nothing, and who holds it
Our Commitment to Privacy
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. AudioTag has no network permission at all, so it cannot send anything anywhere. The only personal information I hold is an email address, and only if you have given me one.

AudioTag Privacy Practices
Local Data Storage
AudioTag stores all your audio recordings, text content, and NFC tag associations locally on your Android device. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to back it up using Android's built-in backup system.
What AudioTag Stores Locally:
- Audio recordings you create
- Text content for text-to-speech tags
- NFC tag identifiers and associations
- App preferences and settings
- Theme and accessibility configuration
No Network Access
AudioTag does not require or request internet access. The app functions entirely offline, ensuring that your audio content and personal information cannot be transmitted to external servers.
What This Means:
- No cloud uploads or syncing
- No analytics or usage tracking
- No automatic updates of app content
- No communication with external services
Required Permissions
AudioTag only requests the minimum permissions necessary for its core functionality:
Permissions and Their Purpose:
- Microphone Access: Required to record audio messages for NFC tags
- NFC Access: Necessary to read from and write to NFC tags
- Storage Access: Used to store audio files and app data locally on your device
These permissions are only used for the app's intended functionality and never for data collection or tracking purposes.
Website Privacy Practices
No Tracking or Analytics
Our website (oneeyedmanlabs.org) does not use analytics services, tracking cookies, or any form of user behavior monitoring. We don't collect information about your visits, browsing patterns, or interactions with our site.
No Cookies
This website does not set or use cookies for tracking, analytics, or any other purpose. Your browsing experience is completely private and anonymous.
Contact Information
When you contact us via email at [email protected], we only use your email address and message content to respond to your inquiry. We will never add you to the newsletter because you emailed us — the only way onto that list is to ask for it and confirm it yourself. See The newsletter below.
External Links
Our website contains links to external services like GitHub. When you click these links, you'll be subject to the privacy policies of those external services. We encourage you to review their privacy practices.
External Services We Link To:
- GitHub: For source code repositories and issue tracking
- Cloudflare: For website hosting and domain services
- Resend: For email, including any future mailing list
The Newsletter
What We Collect
There is no mailing list at the moment. If you have emailed me an address to be told about future updates, it is sitting in my mailbox and is being used for nothing else.
The rest of this section describes how a list will work when there is one, so you can decide now rather than later. If you subscribe then, the only things collected are your email address and the date and time you confirmed. Never your name, and never anything about your disability, health or assistive technology use.
You Have to Ask Twice
Subscribing is double opt-in. After you enter your address we send one email asking you to confirm. If you don't click the link in it, nothing further happens and your address is discarded. This also means nobody can add you to the list by typing in your address.
Our lawful basis for sending you the newsletter is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
No Open or Click Tracking
We do not track whether you opened an email or which links you clicked. Those features are switched off. We do not know who reads the newsletter, only how many people are subscribed to it.
The newsletter contains no tracking pixels, no advertising and no third-party content.
Who Processes It
When there is a list, it will be held by Resend, an email service, acting as my data processor. Resend is based in the United States, so an email address given to it is transferred outside the UK and EEA under the terms of their data processing agreement. Their privacy policy is at resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.
We do not sell, rent, share or otherwise pass your address to anyone else, for any purpose.
Unsubscribing
Every email has an unsubscribe link, and it takes one click — no login, no survey, no confirmation page asking you to reconsider. Your address is removed from the list when you use it. You can also email [email protected] and we will remove you.
We keep your address only for as long as you are subscribed.
Your Rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and withdraw your consent at any time. Email [email protected] and we will action it. If you are not satisfied with how we handle it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Your Data Rights
Complete Control
Since all AudioTag data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over your information:
- Access: All your data is accessible through the app interface
- Deletion: Uninstalling the app removes all associated data
- Portability: Use the app's export features to back up your content
- Modification: Edit or delete any content at any time
Android Backup Service
AudioTag integrates with Android's Auto Backup service, which may back up your app data to your Google account if you have this feature enabled in your device settings. This backup is:
- Controlled entirely by your Android device settings
- Encrypted and managed by Google, not by us
- Used only for restoring your data when you reinstall the app
- Subject to Google's privacy policy, not ours
You can disable Android Auto Backup in your device settings if you prefer not to use this feature.
